Tramarossa Size Guide

Tramarossa sizing works on two levels: the waist is true to size, and the model name tells you how the leg is cut. Get those two apart and the rest is simple. This guide covers the waist conversion, the difference between Leonardo, Michelangelo and Brando, where Alvise fits in, what to do about the leg length, and the one part of the range that is cut slim rather than regular. Union 22 has stocked Tramarossa longer than anyone else in Liverpool, so if the tables do not settle it, we will.

Does Tramarossa Run Big or Small?

The waist is true to size. If you are a UK 34, order the UK 34. No adjustment, no allowance to build in.

What changes between pairs is the shape of the leg, not the size on the label. Leonardo, Michelangelo and Brando are leg cuts, not sizes. The same waist measurement runs through all of them — a Leonardo 34 and a Michelangelo 34 sit on the same waist and differ from the thigh down. So choose the model on how you want the trouser to sit, then take your normal waist size in it.

This is why a Tramarossa product page at Union 22 can read Regular Fit — take your normal size while the title says Leonardo. The fit indicator is answering what size. The model name is answering what shape.

One exception: the blazers, t-shirts and jersey are cut slim, so size up one on those. The denim and trousers are the regular part of the range. There is a table for the slim pieces further down.

Leonardo, Michelangelo, Brando and Alvise: Which Tramarossa Fit Is Which?

Three of these are leg cuts. One is not — and that catches people out, so it is worth being clear.

LEONARDO — SLIM
The slim cut. Closer through the thigh and down the leg for a clean line. The one to take if you like a trouser that sits near the leg.
MICHELANGELO — REGULAR
The regular cut. More room through the thigh and a straighter line to the hem. The easiest of the three to wear if you are not after a slim trouser.
BRANDO — THE COMBINATION
The newest cut, and the one that answers the most common complaint. Brando gives you the room through the thigh of a Michelangelo, then cuts in from the knee down to finish slim. Room where you want it, taper where you want it. If you find a Leonardo tight through the thigh but do not want a straight leg, this is the one.
ALVISE — NOT A LEG CUT
Alvise is the drawstring version of the technical pant, so it describes the waist fastening rather than the shape of the leg. If you see Alvise in a title, you are looking at a drawstring trouser — check the model name alongside it for the cut.

The model name is in the title of every pair we list, so you know which you are looking at before you order.

The Union 22 Fit System

On every product page at Union 22 you'll find a fit indicator. It tells you how to size, not how the leg is cut:

SLIM FIT — SIZE UP
This garment cuts slim through the chest and shoulders. If you're normally a Large, order an XL. On Tramarossa this is the blazers, t-shirts and jersey. When in doubt on a Slim Fit piece, always go up one size.
REGULAR FIT — TAKE YOUR NORMAL SIZE
The label on all Tramarossa denim and trousers. Order your usual waist size, whichever model you choose.
BIG FIT — SIZE DOWN
This garment has a relaxed, oversized cut. If you're normally a Large, order a Medium for a clean, considered fit. No Tramarossa piece carries this indicator.

Tramarossa Waist Size Conversion

Tramarossa uses Italian waist sizing, which is your UK waist plus 16. Every pair at Union 22 is listed with both — for example UK 34 / EU 50.

Tramarossa grades in every odd size from a 28 to a 40. There is an actual 29, 31, 33, 35, 37 and 39 rather than a compromise between two evens. It is the finest size run of any denim brand we carry, and it is the reason a Tramarossa often fits properly straight off the shelf.

Measure around your natural waist where the trouser sits. Not every wash is cut in every size — the size selector on each product shows what we hold in that pair.

Tramarossa Blazers, T-shirts & Jersey Sizing

These are cut slim — size up one. Tramarossa's tech-woven blazers, t-shirts and jersey pieces run closer through the chest and shoulders than the denim does. If you are normally a Large, order the XL.

Find your usual size in the table below, then take the size above it.

EU UK Chest Width (inches)
EU 44XS34–36"
EU 46S36–38"
EU 48M38–40"
EU 50L40–42"
EU 52XL42–44"
EU 54XXL44–46"
EU 563XL46–48"

Measure your chest under the arms, across the fullest part, with the tape level and not pulled tight — then order the size above the one you land on.

We buy Tramarossa primarily for the denim and trousers, so the blazers and jersey come in occasionally rather than every season. If you are after a piece you cannot see on the site, message us and we will tell you whether we can get it.

Tramarossa Leg Length & Alterations

Tramarossa jeans are made to a long inside leg, as most Italian denim is, so the trouser can be finished to the wearer rather than cut to an average. Most customers will want them taken up.

We alter them in store. Bring them in or tell us when you order and we will hem them to your length, as a paid service — ask and we will confirm the cost for the pair you are buying. A Michelangelo or a Brando can also be tapered through the leg at the same time if you want it closer.

Have the length taken off once you are sure of the fit rather than straight away — a hemmed trouser is an altered garment.

About Tramarossa at Union 22

Union 22 is the longest standing Tramarossa stockist in Liverpool. We have carried the Italian denim house for years, through the arrival of the technical fabrics and the introduction of the Brando cut, and we buy it across the full waist run rather than the middle sizes only.

Because we alter in store, you can buy a pair from us and leave with them finished to your length rather than working out what to do about it afterwards.
