Does Frescobol Carioca Run Big or Small?

Neither. Frescobol Carioca is true to size. Every product at Union 22 carries the Regular Fit indicator, so order the size you normally wear.

That includes the categories where people most often expect a catch. The swim shorts are regular, sized to your normal waist rather than to a swim-specific scale. The flip flops are true to size as well.

It is a resort brand and the pieces are cut to be relaxed to wear, but relaxed is the cut rather than the sizing. Your usual size gives you the fit the brand intends.

The Union 22 Fit System

Every product page at Union 22 carries one of three fit indicators. It is an instruction about sizing, not a description of the style:

Frescobol Carioca Swim Shorts Sizing

This is the one worth reading first, because swim shorts are what the brand is known for and because swimwear sizing has a reputation for being its own thing.

It is not here. The swim shorts are regular fit and take your normal waist. A UK 34 in trousers is a UK 34 in a Salvador or a Rio.

The Salvador is cut on an elasticated waist, which gives a little either way, but take your true waist rather than relying on the stretch. Elastic is there for comfort in the water, not to cover a size you have guessed at.

The swim run goes a size further than the tailored shorts, up to a UK 40, so there is more room at the top of the range here than elsewhere in the brand.

Shirts, T-shirts & Tops

The tops size on the Italian scale, where the number is roughly your half chest in centimetres. Every piece is listed with both, for example EU 50 / L UK.

The silk shirts, such as the Roberto in the Espiral and Sol prints, are cut with a relaxed open-collar line because that is what the shirt is for. It is still regular fit. Take your normal size and let the cut do the rest.

The t-shirts run further than the shirts, reaching an EU 54 / XXL, while the silk shirts are cut across a narrower run. The size selector on each product shows exactly what we hold.

Shorts

The tailored and terry shorts, including the Augusto, use the same waist conversion as the swim shorts. Take your true waist.

Footwear: Flip Flops & Sliders

True to size. Take your normal UK size. No adjustment in either direction, which is worth saying because several of the other footwear brands we carry run large and need sizing down.

The Fabio flip flops are sized in pairs, covering two sizes per pair rather than one:

If you fall on the boundary between two pairs, take the one where your size sits first rather than last - a UK 8 is better served by the 41-42 than by stretching into the 43-44.

What To Do If You Are Between Sizes

On the tops, go up. Even sizes only, so there is nothing between an EU 50 and an EU 52, and the larger is the easier wear on a resort piece.

On the swim shorts and shorts, take your true waist rather than rounding. The elasticated waists give enough that a true size is comfortable, and a swim short that is loose at the waist is a problem in the water rather than a preference.

On the flip flops, the paired sizing means most people land comfortably inside a pair rather than between two.
